A Minerva University Visit to the University of Bristol 2007
I am busy thinking about university applications at the moment, and after Jo Hanna-Grindall visited us at school to explain some of the benefits of being a member of the Minerva Network, I was very interested in the possibility of meeting fellow Minerva Members already studying at university. As I result, my Head of Sixth Form helped me get in touch with Jo and during February half term I visited Bristol University and was shown round by a student who is in her first year, studying veterinary science. She previously went to Wimbledon High School GDST so is a member of the Minerva Network.
She spent some time showing me around her halls of residence and many of the other halls to help me get a feel of what the place is like and the different types of accommodation available. She introduced me to other students and I was particularly interested to meet a friend who is in her first year studying Geography, which is what I'm interested in. She was useful in giving me tips when it comes to applying to Bristol.
We then went into the centre of Bristol and she showed me the places where I would have my lectures and the student union bar. It was very helpful to get an insight into what the real Bristol university is like from a student perspective other than on an Open Day and to be shown round by someone who has come from a similar background as myself; who was able to tells me the changes from studying at a GDST school to university.
The day was extremely useful and made me certain that I want to apply to Bristol university as it seems like an excellent university full of friendly people.
