MARION ROE MP - Bromley High School 1948 - 1954
Politics
I was educated at Bromley High School and Croydon High School and finally at the English School of Languages, Vevey, where she studied French, Italian and German.
I was elected Member of Parliament for Broxbourne in Hertfordshire in 1983, with a majority of 17,466 having fought Barking in the 1979 General Election, where I achieved the highest swing from Labour to Conservative of any constituency in that General Election. I was re-elected in 1987 with a majority of 22,995, in 1992 with a majority of 23,970, in 1997 with a majority of 6,653 and again in 2001 with a majority of 8,993.
Government Appointments
I was a Minister in the Thatcher Government as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of the Environment from 1987-19888.
In 1986 I was appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Transport (The Rt Hon John Moore MP) having been P.P.S to Junior Ministers in that Department since the beginning of 1985.
I would happy to give advice to anyone contemplating a career in politics and this can be done through writing to me at the House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA.
