8th May 2.00pm

Extended private guided tour of the Bodleian Library followed by afternoon tea, Oxford £18

So many of you asked us to repeat the success of the 2005 Minerva tour of the Bodleian Library, we simply couldn’t refuse.  Three small groups will be led by experienced and well-informed library experts through the Duke Humfrey's medieval library, still in use today and where generations of famous scholars have studied through the ages, amongst them, 5 kings, 40 Nobel Prize winners, 25 British Prime Ministers and writers such as Oscar Wilde, C S Lewis and J R R Tolkien. You will explore the 17th century Convocation House and Court, where Parliament was held in the Civil War. After this see the architectural icon of Oxford, the Radcliffe Camera, the first rotunda library built in Britain then be guided into the hidden underground tunnels and passages leading to the bookstacks where over 7 million volumes occupy nearly 188km (117miles) of shelving. Afterwards you will be taken back to Oxford High School and treated to afternoon tea. (Please note that due to the several sets of steep stairs and substantial walking, this trip will not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties).

You can book your tickets online via the Minerva Network Members Area (you must login) using a debit or credit card or send a cheque payable to ‘GDST Enterprises Ltd’ to Trust Office. Contact details below.
