Two GDST Sixth Form students have won a coveted Internship with one of the world’s leading banks. Sophie Carlin, from Ipswich High School, and Alice Fulwood, from Oxford High School, fought off competition from nearly one hundred other Girls’ Day School Trust applicants to be shortlisted for the Lehman Brothers ‘Day in the Docks’ Programme. Sophie and Alice then underwent a further one day intensive interview process before finally being identified as joint winners.
The programme is part of an exciting new venture by the bank, encouraging young women into the world of investment. Successful applicants win a financial award, and are guaranteed a place on the Lehman Brothers ‘Women’s Immersion Programme’, in their first year of study at University.
Bridget Anderson, Managing Director of CAO Investment Banking Division at Lehman Brothers said “We were impressed by the calibre and standard of all of the girls”. Sophie, who is studying A Levels in Economics, Maths, Biology and Geography, is already looking forward to a rewarding summer, having also been chosen to attend a GDST Summer School in Ningbo, China. She said “I am really astounded to have won in such a competitive field. This summer will be life-changing for me; firstly with the GDST visit to Ningbo in China, and then I can look forward to this amazing opportunity with Lehman Brothers.”
