Charlotte Rhoades, a 17-year-old student from Streatham & Clapham High School will be having her meter long plait of hair cut in school assembly by Trevor Sorbie to promote and raise money for Sorbie’s charity ‘My New Hair’ - the non-profit making wig personalisation service created by Sorbie.
Charlotte will also donate her hair to Little Princess Trust, a charity, which makes personalised wigs for children who have suffered hair loss for medical reasons.
“Our hair is a very important part of us and our identity, especially for women, and we tend to take it for granted. People who lose their hair from cancer treatment and alopecia have to deal with the trauma of losing their hair as well as dealing with the illness itself. I have decided to cut my hair off to raise awareness of this issue and the fact that there are services out there like My New Hair to help people get personalised wigs” Charlotte Rhoades
Trevor will be cutting Charlotte’s hair on Tuesday 20th May at 8.30 am in front of the whole school in a special assembly at Streatham & Clapham High School.
Charlotte has always been know as ‘the girl with long hair’ but was motivated in a brave display of generosity to donate her hair after seeing a close family friend suffer hair loss through cancer treatment. Charlotte’s goal is to raise at least £1000.
“The Little Princess Trust is a charity that provides hair pieces for children who lose their hair through cancer treatment. We are delighted to have the opportunity to link My New Hair and the legendary Trevor Sorbie. To quote an eight year old who we recently helped “It isn’t very nice not having any hair” Tracey Prosser - The Little Princess Trust
Recognising the importance of beautiful hair to everyone, Trevor Sorbie launched his non-profit service for clients suffering medical hair loss - offering advice and wig customisation. Trevor Sorbie personally offers his services and well-known talents totally free of charge
“I have a lot of experience in cutting wigs and any hairdresser can learn to provide this invaluable service to clients. Coping with illness is very traumatic and to have the added stress of hair loss can be devastating. Hairdressers are very involved with their client’s image and providing this service is an additional way to enrich a client’s life during this sensitive time” - Trevor Sorbie
