Awards and Scholarships

The scholarships will be awarded for a study or enterprise entailing travel which may, within the first year after leaving school, be used for a short-term project or a project undertaken during a year off between school and commencement of higher education. The scholarships are of varying amounts, and are available to entrants to a degree course at any place of higher education except where otherwise specified.  

Those eligible: Members of Year 13 who are applying in the current year for or have obtained a place on a course leading to a degree or equivalent qualification.

There are a number of named awards that have been endowed for pupils who are continuing to study in specific areas at Higher Education. The Awards and Prizes available to Sixth Formers are as follows:

Former Friends Biology, Maths and Physics Prize

 Awards to reward the endeavour of sciences in GDST schools.

Dame Kitty Anderson History Prize

Awards for Year 13 candidates who are invited to submit their individual A Level project or coursework essay.

Minerva Prize

Awarded to one Year 13 student per year who best exemplifies the 'all round' education provided by the GDST.

Pearson and Silver Awards

Awards for Years 12 and 13 students in GDST schools to provide assistance towards the cost of attending meetings or courses or carrying out projects with a classical content.

Somerville and Gurney Awards

Awards for Year 12 holders of Trust Entrance or Sixth Form Scholarships, or Honorary GDST Scholarships.

Henrietta Dent Award

Awards for students in Year 13 or in the first year after leaving who are planning to train as teachers.

Johnston Memorial Scholarship

Awarded annually to a Year 13 pupil educated at a GDST school with the support of a GDST Bursary, and intending to read Law at university.

Travel Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded to Year 13 students for a study or enterprise entailing travel which may happen within the first year of leaving school.
